Carolina Dispute Settlement Services (CDSS) is an established, innovative, community-based not-for-profit mediation center serving the Triangle area of North Carolina. CDSS is currently seeking dedicated individuals with an interest in making a significant and positive difference in alternative dispute resolution in North Carolina.
We have opportunities for graduate, college and high school students, as well as other professionals. We have great flexibility in scheduling and will work with you to tailor an internship to your needs.
CDSS interns will complete our orientation training that will inform and better equip them to carry out assigned duties. Program regulations, policies, and requirements will be covered during training. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background as well as the needs of CDSS and may include support to:
Mediation Services: The intern will be involved in all aspects of mediation which include assisting in case management, preparation of mediation documents, and reports as well as conducting necessary research on topics related to mediation, the NC justice system, and current jurisprudence.
Outreach and Advocacy: The intern will assist with outreach activities such as preparing and editing texts, articles, presentations, and contributing to our website and social media.
Preparing Data and Reports: The intern will assist in the intake and follow-up of cases including the compilation of statistics and the preparation of reports, and clerical assistance.
Court Experience: The intern will shadow mediators and learn about mediation as well as intake, support and clerical aspects of the court mediation service. The intern will also participate in debriefing.
