Honorable Donald W. Overby
Honorable Donald W. Overby has over twenty six years of professional legal experience. Judge Overby began his career in private practice, emphasizing family, criminal, business and a general civil trial law. He has served as a volunteer attorney for the Guardian Ad Litem program representing abused and neglected children. Judge Overby is a North Carolina Certified Judicial Specialist in Juvenile Law. He served on Governor Hunt’s Juvenile Crime Commission to revise the North Carolina Juvenile Code and has served fourteen years as a District Court Judge. Judge Overby has been both an instructor and speaker for mediation and arbitration seminars, the North Carolina Bar Association and Trial Lawyer’s seminars with accompanying manuscripts. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at North Carolina State University.
Judge Overby serves as an emergency judge and conducts an active mediation and arbitration practice. He is certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission to mediate both Family Financial and Superior Court cases. Judge Overby has served on numerous committees, civic organizations, and Board of Directors; he was also the founder of the Courthouse Kids Center and is a US Army Veteran. He has completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies on the German language at East Carolina University.
